Start - Settings - Control Panel - Modem - Properties - Connection - Advanced - type in the Extra Settings text box: S11=50. This will set the modem dial tone length from 100 msec (default) to 50 msec.Improve Downloading Speed in Windows:
Start - Settings - Control Panel - Modem - Properties - Connection - Port Settings - Set the buffers to full.
Start - Settings - Control Panel - System Properties - Device Manager - Ports - choose the com port where your modem is installed. Go to the Port Settings tab, and choose 115200 bits per second, if you have a 56k modem.
